Don't Be Afraid To Request No Photos During These Wedding Day Moments

On their wedding day, some couples are excited for their photographer to document virtually every moment from the start of the event to its conclusion. However, for others, there are certain moments that the clicking of a camera shutter may not be desirable. Whether you're someone who really wants to be in the moment during your big day or has a private side, there may be certain moments during the day that you don't want to be photographed. That's OK — it's your day, and you certainly have the right to specify exactly how you want things to unfold. Just be sure to tell your photographer in advance that you don't want pictures taken in some instances. Here are some examples.

Getting Dressed

It's common for wedding photographers to snap pictures of the bride as she gets dressed in advance of the wedding. Lots of women appreciate these images, but those who are shy or perhaps a little self-conscious about their bodies may not want to be documented in this manner. If you'd rather get dressed with the help of your mother and bridal party women, but not have your wedding photographer present, make sure to make this request known.

Reciting Your Vows

For many couples, there's nothing more important during their wedding day than reciting their vows to one another. At this moment, you want to get lost in the connection with your partner — perhaps even blocking out your officiant and those who are in attendance. Although photos taken during the reciting of your vows can have a significant visual impact, it's your prerogative to request that your photographer doesn't document this event. He or she can simply step away and set the camera down as you exchange these important words.

Your First Kiss

The first kiss is another big moment during your wedding ceremony — and one that photographers usually capture so that you can relive it in the months and years ahead. Some people may feel a little self-conscious about kissing in front of so many people, and the idea of a photographer standing just a few feet away may make you feel a little nervous. There's nothing wrong with having this feeling, even if it's not something that a lot of people share. You can briefly explain the situation to your photographer and ask him or her to set the camera down at this brief point in the ceremony.
